Agriate was once considered the breadbasket of Corsica due to the thriving crops and breeding activity. Today, it is the only “desert” in Europe. Except here, instead of sand (with the exception of the sand from the beaches!), you will find an arid maquis with diversified vegetation, huge ridges, valleys and rocky peaks, facing the sea and Cap Corse. Time seems to stand still here.

This land is managed by the French Coastal Protection Agency (Conservatoire du Littoral), and the arid landscape of maquis and granite rocks shaped by the sea air, softens as you approach the shore. With the huge ridges, valleys and rocky peaks, facing the sea and Cap Corse, time really seems to stand still here. The vines, grasslands and olive trees are still worked here today.

It is in fact the farming activity which has shaped the different maquis that you can see before you: the dense bushes of wild olives and mastic, the higher maquis of arbutus, holm oak and heather, and the low maquis of cistus, rosemary, lavender and immortelle.

You will discover the warblers of the maquis: Marmora’s warbler, Dartford warbler and Black-headed warbler. Closer to the sea cliffs, peregrine falcons and ospreys can be seen flying through the sky. In the pagliaghji, bats have chosen to take up residence, along with geckos and tarentes. Look out to the horizon over the sea, and you might even catch a glimpse of dolphins.

Picture-perfect beaches…

In Agriate, we don’t just offer you beaches, we offer you the most fabulous beaches in Corsica and Balagne, with immaculate white sand and turquoise blue waters. Beaches worthy of the Caribbean, just a stone’s throw away from home. The crystal-clear waters invite you to come and discover the exceptional sea bed. Welcome to paradise!

Information on public access to the Saleccia and Lotu beaches via the pathway

In 2023, the commune of Santo Pietro di Tenda, in partnership with the Collectivité de Corse and the Conservatoire du Littoral, launched a 3-year works project. The work carried out over the last 6 months has enabled the track to be re-routed, rainwater run-off to be adapted and facilities to be created to ensure public safety.

In June 2023, the Saleccia track will be moved 1km downstream, towards the Saloon. A reception and information point will be set up 200m after the entrance to the piste. This information point will

  • inform the public about the Agriate site
  • ensure that the runway is closed in the event of a fire hazard
  • collect fees for the parking areas, all of which will be used to manage the scheme (upkeep of the piste and parking areas and employment of seasonal workers).

Rates for 2023 :

  • 6€ for light vehicles adapted to the slopes, campervans adapted to the slopes, quads and buggies
  • 3€ for motorbikes
  • Free for bicycles
