An unspoilt gem of agriculture... Like its neighbour, Galeria, the village of Manso was entirely destroyed by the Barbaresque and the Genoans at the end of the 15th century.

Its territory of 121 km² belongs to the state (93 km²) and to the municipalities of Niolo. It offers a unique view of the mountains.

In the shade of the highest peaks of the island, close to the splendid forest of Fangu declared "world biosphere reserve", Manso and its hamlets testify to the diversity of Balagne.

Manso occupies the upper valley of the Fango, leaning against the great barrier which stands between the Paglia Orba (2,525 m.) And the Punta Minuta (2,556 m.).

Large forests are sheltered there: the communal forest of Falasorma, the national forest of Fango and the forest of Piriu. The latter has been declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. It is populated by holm oaks which are said to be the oldest in the world.

The municipality is made up of four hamlets which are from east to west (or from upstream to downstream): Mont-Estremo, Barghiana, Manso and Tuarelli-Chiorna, all located along the Fango.
The town hall and the church are located in Barghiana.

The Filosorma - or Falasorma - is a place steeped in the history of these Niolu shepherds who, over the centuries, have shaped or populated it to the rhythm of transhumance.
Descending from the Col de Caprunale, the herds walked on the right bank and, if they went to Galeria, crossed the Fango by the Ponte Vecchju.
