The emblematic Pietra islands, with their red porphyry rock, enchant visitors with their unique beauty. Made up of several parts, each bears a distinct name: Isula Sicotta, Isula Rossa (A Petra), Isula Piana, Ruccettu and Rocciu.
These islands offer spectacular views, perfect for a sunset stroll. Their landscapes sweep along the mountainous coastline and reveal certain villages stretching to an infinite horizon. Bathed in a blue that changes with the weather, they are linked to the small bay of L’Ile-Rousse by a bridge built in the 19th century.
As well as their natural beauty, the Pietra islands are rich in history, with Neolithic remains, a Genoese tower and a lighthouse. Preserving this heritage is a priority, and the islands are largely owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral, which has undertaken restoration work to protect this unique site, including the construction of a landscaped car park to improve access. A magnificent promenade, mainly for pedestrians, allows walkers and lovers of nature and panoramic views to take full advantage of the enchanting setting. The witch’s claws have been removed from the islands, and the lighthouse has been renovated. Open during the summer, you can discover a museum space focusing on the history of the lighthouse and the islands through chronological friezes, projections, documents and illustrated plates (opening times and days available).
The islands of La Pietra, with their rich biodiversity and historical heritage, continue to captivate and inspire, offering an unforgettable experience to all who visit them.
