Heavenly and peaceful environment…
Leave the coast and head towards the Pieve du Ghjunsani to discover a whole other island. An island of green forests, powerful running waters and rugged landscapes. Venture into the Regional Natural Park of Corsica. Balagne has some treasures to unveil to you…
Come and discover the secrets of a small village. Mausoleo has a lot to offer, between nature, history and legends. Start by admiring the rocky headland, against which the village was built. “A single man can make it move, but no power can knock it over”, what are they talking about? The enormous monolith which is balanced precariously on this old fortified site.
Mausoleo still has more surprises up its sleeve… Head over to the Parish Church of San-Salvadore. Inside its walls are some remarkable works of art. The best of all is a very old statue of Saint John the Baptist, made from the wood of olive trees.
Now it’s time to discover the green gold of Ghjunsani. Go to the bottom of the village and you will see a picture-perfect stream flowing down below. Carry on walking… Go past the Genoese bridges and old mills. This journey through time will take you to the Tartagine log cabin. This old building was transformed into a farm-inn and offers the services of a gite at only four hours from the GR20 route.
This is a simple and welcoming place, in an idyllic setting of beauty and peace-and-quiet. Welcome to Mausoleo!
